Mr. Calvin is the department's microscopy expert who deals with our fleet of light microscopes including bright-field, phase-contrast, and fluorescence microscopes (several of which have been outfitted with video cameras) in addition to our confocal microscope and scanning electron microscope. He oversees the scheduling and updating/ reimaging our fleet of 57 departmental computers. Some of his other duties include chemical and equipment inventories, chemical waste disposal, and radiation safety. At times he participates in teaching at various levels of the curriculum by giving demonstrations of microscopy techniques, sample staining, and electronic imaging. He has helped to coordinate equipment and time-sharing between various Vassar College departments and the Electron Microscopy facility at SUNY New Paltz.
